Types of Face Masks

A formulator must understand the types of face masks and how they perform. They can be nourishing, detoxifying, and exfoliating. A face mask removes the dead layers of the skin, helps to improve circulation, pull toxins and impurities out of the skin, and nourish the skin. They smooth, tighten, brighten, and tone the skin. It can also be used as a spot treatment and clear blemishes. Formulating...

You cannot possibly know how useful this is to me thank you :D
Where did you get the hot plate?
Greatly appreciated.
This is my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong (because this topic IS so confusing). MCT is composed of C6 to C12 chain lengths. CCT is composed of C8 to C10 chain lengths. Fractionated coconut oil (FCO) is made up of chain lengths of 8 and 10 carbons. CCT and FCO having the same chain lengths but there's not enough difference between all of them to really notice. Suppliers are as confused as we are. Searching for the INCI (Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides), I got these results: Making Cosmetics use to sell it as Medium Chain Triglycerides, now they sell it as Triglyceride. Bulk Apothecary sells it as FCO. WSP sells it as MCT. Brambleberry sells it as FCO. From Nature with Love sells it as MCT. Crafting Cosmetics sells it under the correct INCI. Scented Expressions sells it as MCT. Green Iguana Bath sells it as MCT. Formulator Sample Shop sells it as MCT. Ingredients to die For sells it under the correct INCI. Bulk Naturals Wholesale sells it as MCT. Lotioncrafter sells it as CCT. I could go on but we get the point. How can any of us aquire accurate information when the suppliers themselves are this confused?
You are right, it is very confusing. Each supplier lists it differently. You need to check with each supplier on it and ask for the specifications on it. In general, MCT is food grade, CCT is cosmetic grade.

Madam, I have applied the method, and after the process is complete, the smell of alcohol is still overwhelming the herb. Where could I have made a mistake, and what is the solution to make the smell of alcohol disappear? I used 99% alcohol.
It is going to smell like alcohol because it is all alcohol. And it is going to smell like the herb. It is a full strength extract so it will need to be diluted to use.
my beautiful colored women be mindful of what & WHO you’re looking at.. this woman does not need or use edge control but wants to show you how to make it and charge almost 2k for ingredients that’ll make your hair fall out. The same ingredients in other edge control is the same she uses and we all know that stuff is toxic.
Yes, Joan does not use edge control but her students had asked her for years to develop a traditional edge control for them. She did and now they use it and sell it. To contract with a cosmetic formulator it will probably cost you $8,000-$12,000 for the formulation alone.
@@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool it’s truly sad her student are attending any of her classes she provides or seeking advice from a white woman when y’all have no knowledge of black hair. like is said before that formula is the reason why people hair is falling out. you don't care because you don’t use it.
@@talkwithsasharidley Hi Sasha, I agree, it would be great to have more instructors for textured hair and there hasn’t been and that is why the students have come to me because they trust me to develop custom formulations for their hair types. They have taught me over all these years about their hair for me to develop the formulations they need. I take it very seriously that so many students have trusted me to develop formulations for textured and curly hair. I don’t have curly thick hair; I have fine straight hair, but I have formulations for curly thick hair. I don’t have acne, but I have formulations for students wanting to do an acne line. Yes, there needs to be more cosmetic formulators, more women and women from all cultures developing formulations. My students have never told me that edge control causes hair loss. They use it and want to sell edge control. There is also a natural edge gel formulation that is an option in the course. For over 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to empowering women to create their own haircare and skincare products, especially for textured hair, which has been overlooked by large corporations run by white people. Many of my students don’t look like me, but they trust me to develop formulations tailored to their hair needs. I’ve tried really hard to give women a trade so they can compete with these large corporations and make products for their hair type and make money at it. My goal is to provide the science and skills they need to build a successful business that reflects diversity in the industry while also providing financial gain to support themselves and their family. All the best to you, Joan
I agree with you ms Joan I am a black woman and I trust your formulations which are professionally tailored to suite all types of hair and skin. I purchase some of your formula's some years back when they was at a cheaper price in my currency and they were all good formula's so that lady is not making any sense a cosmetic formulator supposed to no how to formulate products for any type of skin or hair . Some of Those big companies just choose to formulate for a specific type of hair and skin. But you ms Joan you are not a selfish person every one will benefit from your courses. Anyway I would love to buy this formula if it was in the lab because your course is way to expensive in my currency.😢😢
I hope every product you have ever bought and used, is made by a black person, including your clothes, extensions, glasses, pad and shoes. They always have some kind of chemical in them. Sorry sis, your mentality about a white lady, making and edge control is sad and ridiculous. Real plantation mentality.😮
i can't wait to make my own spray soon! i love the scent of eucalyptus.
Thaannnkk youuuu
Thank you for this! Any suggestions on what to do with the leftover herbs? Can you extract twice?
Welcome! You can try that or just compost them.
thank you, you just saved me $55.
You're welcome. Nice, happy to hear it helped! :)
Excellent. What kind of alcohol do you use? Can you use the extract on your skin without irritation? Can you drink it? thanks
Hello, Thank you. Our percolation method is developed specifically for making extracts for skin and hair care products. The extracts are very potent and are to be used in formulations, not on their own on skin. You can find more info regarding the alcohol here: joanmorais.com/percolation-herbal-alcohol-extract/
Which castor oil is good for leather?
Hello, we are discussing castor oil that can be used in hair and skincare formulations. We don't have a recommendation for leather.
THANK YOU ❤
What is your preferred process to use to remove the alcohol in this case?
Excellent
thank you!
That was a terrific class for herbal tinctures. I’d love to try that method so shall start looking for the stand and funnel😊
Thank you! You can find it at our store under 'straining': www.amazon.com/shop/joanmoraiscosmeticsschool
How do we remove the vanelle particles from the oil?
That's the best explanation. Thank you!
Sorry Joan. The nearly 5 minute commercial got me; had to go.
We don't add the commercials (RUclips's doing) but usually there is the option to skip the commercial after a few seconds so you don't have to watch it all. As we agree, 5 minutes is too long 🙂
@@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool Thank you for your response. I'm glad to learn that you are not doing this. All these social media sites are going crazy with ads. I'll go back and watch it, but I did not get the option to skip, which usually comes up. If I can't skip, I'll take the matter up with youTube.
@@MidwestSoaper That makes sense. We haven't seen where you can't skip the ad. So odd, we will check it out. Thank you!
Can I use MCT oil?

Recently stumbled across this channel and I'm so glad I did! What would you suggest for acne scars?
What temperature would you say that oil gets too? Would you say 100f for 24 hours is ok? If its 110f would 12 hours be the same?
Joan your daughter is soo pretty, love you both 😊.
Thank you so much for your kindness, we appreciate it! 💛
Can you use grapeseed oil? And can you put it out in the sun for a few weeks to make it herbal infused?
Hi! I already made one with grapeseed oil and I loved it! light texture, easy to absorb and grapeseed oil has a lot of porperties for the skin that are good. I did the 6 weeks without any heat but then did the heat method over the oil that passed the time, at least for it worked great. I have seen others that do the sun method.
This is great. Doo you have any tips for getting the right amount of oil into the bottle?
Dear Joan Morais, thank you for your channel and the interesting, informative videos. It's good to hear your recommendations. My own experience with essential oils is quite limited since I haven't tried many different ones in my home-made ointments. Because I started to make my own salves later in life, and developed eczema due to a combination of factors (stress and diet), I focused mostly on essential oils that were recommended for dry or mature skin, such as patchouli. Others I've used are benzoin (a must -- I use it in every single recipe), German chamomile (which doesn't smell as good as Roman chamomile but -- I've read -- have greater medicinal power), Rosemary (which also encourages penetration into the skin), Juniper, and Frankincense. More recently I've tried other essential oils. I read that Myrrh and Frankincense are synergistic, and Myrrh has indeed made a discernible difference but is very expensive. I was surprised by the warming and soothing effect of Clove bud essential oil. Oregano essential oil is very beneficial for my skin (and I've read on the Internet, is also effective against sun damage and squamous cell carcinoma). It's super-strong however and can irritate skin very easily -- I use only about four drops of oregano essential oil in 1 liter of ointment. As I wrote previously, these days I also use Helichrysum in every single formulation, because it quells the eczema inflammation. I would like to experiment with the essential oils you've mentioned in this video, thank you for discussing them! Wishing you all the best, Joan Morais. May you keep on keeping on!
Thanks, for sharing. What would you recommend for creapy skin?
It's very important to lock in the moisture and keep the skin hydrated. This is done by applying a moisturizer, balm, or oil. If applying an oil balm or oil apply it to moist skin. Protect the skin from the sun. Plant retinol like bakuchiol may help and same with other actives like hyaluronic acid.
Thank you for the information. Is there a ratio of flowers to oil? I have some dried lavender and I would love to try this.
Percolations for tinctures should be done with no less than 100 gr of dried herbs.
It all depends on the size of the funnel. 100 grams of herb is used when using a 1.5 liter wine bottle or other funnel (percolator). This funnel (percolator) is only 250 ml. Herbalists use a smaller funnel to make smaller amounts when they don’t want a large batch of tincture.
Thank you, the marula oil is interesting, I didn't know it existed! Looking forward to your choice for top essential oils!
You're welcome! Yes :) Great, will be sharing top EO's soon
Wow I loved your information thank you very much ❤

Hello Thank You for very useful information. Can I use this method with fresh herbs?
Hello, Thank you. This method requires dried herbs, not fresh.
Mrs.Joan you are before your time. So many people are doing this even now in 2024 but you introduce this 11 yrs ago wow
Thank you, this made me smile :)
Is it true that it is good for eyes and cataracts?
You would need to consult with a professional on this. We use it in cosmetic formulations.
Hi Ms. Joan, I'm a new subscriber here. I love your video content. I am interested about skin care ingredients and how it works on skin. Please do more videos. ❤️. Thank you.

A fractionated oil has the solid fats separated out to make it a liquid oil.
So fascinating. Who knew there was a water soluble version! Love it ❤
Yes! Thank you for watching :)
Are the 3 castor oils good for hair?
Yes, in the video I discuss how they can benefit hair. They are used a lot on hair for scalp ailments and to smooth hair and stimulate hair follicles/hair growth. You can read more about them here: joanmorais.com/3-types-castor-oil/
